The 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party is set to open in Beijing on October 16. The congress is expected to last for one week according to a pattern established at the 14th Congress held in 1992.
We suspect that soon after the conclusion of the congress China will begin to allow to overseas tourists to visit China. In the beginning, some COVID-related requirements should remain in place such as proof of vaccination and mandatory testing on arrival. However, forced quarantine would be abolished or else few tourists would show up. In the beginning, a visa quota system might be introduced as well to prevent sudden influx of overseas tourists. All this is just our speculation based on knowledge of China and years of experience running trips to China.
We’ll find out very soon whether our speculation will pan out.
