If you ask some Canadian politicians, the answer is no. The federal government advises Canadians to “Exercise a high degree of caution in China due to the risk of arbitrary enforcement of local laws” as a result of the diplomatic row between Canada and China over the arrest of Meng Wanzhou in Canada and China’s subsequent arrests of the two Michaels of Canada.
However, if you ask Laurus Travel whether it is safe for Canadians to travel to China, the answer is definitely yes, despite what we frequently hear from politicians and the news media.
While Canadians are still hesitant to go to China, the number of Americans wishing to visit China in 2024 and beyond has been on the rise judging by the number of inquiries we have received from Americans since late last year. This reminds us of what happened soon after Meng Wanzhou was arrested by Canadian authorities in December 2018. While Canadians were cancelling their 2019 China tours en masse, our American customers weren’t bothered by the incident at all. The arrest was instigated by the Trump Administration and Trudeau did what Trump asked him to do and Laurus Travel lost all of its Canadian customers booked on its China tours! At the same time, our American customers were having a great time touring China with us. How ironic!
We hope Canada and China will go back on good terms again in the near future so that we can capitalize on our expertise and Make Laurus Travel Great Again 🙂
