Are you looking for Japan autumn foliage tours?
According to the latest forecast out of Japan, 2025 autumn foliage is expected to reach its peak Kanto (Greater Tokyo Area and nearby) and Kansai (Kyoto, Nara, Osaka etc.) in late November and early December. That’s about 11 days later than usual due to warmer weather.
If you are looking for 2026 autumn foliage forecast from Japan Meteorological Corporation, you’ll need to wait till early September 2026. Just remember google “Japan autumn foliage forecast 2026 Japan Meteorological Corporation” for their news release.
According to Japan National Tourism Organization, “from late September through to early December, the country is transformed into a breathtaking canvas of fiery reds, brilliant scarlets and regal gold by the Japanese maple and ginkgo tree, as well as supporting acts like the Japanese rowan and larch. November is considered the best month to view the autumn colours in most parts of Japan.”
We couldn’t agree more. The transformation of autumn leaves in Japan is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world. This is unsurprising when you consider the country’s unique geographical profile. Almost 70 percent of its land is covered by forests populated with deciduous trees.

Best Time to Visit Japan
The best time to visit Japan is during spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November), when the weather is mild, skies are clear, and the country’s landscapes are famously beautiful with either cherry blossoms or vivid autumn foliage.
Cherry Blossom Season
The most popular travel period is late March to April, when cherry blossoms (sakura) bloom across Japan, offering iconic scenery and pleasant temperatures around 10–20°C (50–68°F).
Autumn Foliage Season
From September to November, Japan showcases its colorful autumn leaves (koyo), especially in October and November, with mild, dry, and sunny weather. Temperatures are cool, crowds are thinner than during cherry blossom season, and outdoor activities are particularly rewarding thanks to the scenery.
