After Thai Airways suspended its direct flights between Bangkok and Vancouver many years ago, travellers going to Thailand from Canada could only reach Thailand by way of another country. The most popular airports for such layovers include, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.
In the summer of 2022, Air Canada announced that it would launch non-stop flights between Vancouver and Bangkok in the upcoming winter season. The initiative proved to be popular among travellers from Canada eager to explore Thailand. The service by Air Canada is seasonal and is not available in summer due to low demand. Air Canada announced recently that this seasonal service will continue to be operational this winter (2024/25). This makes it easier for tour operators such as Laurus Travel to plan Thailand tours from Canada.
Those who are afraid of long flights in economy class can break up the long journeys with a convenient layover for comfort. Based on the current flights available, the best cities for layover would be Tokyo, Taipei and Hong Kong. Very soon, Beijing, Shanghai and Seoul may become feasible too.
