Is China safe for American tourists?
China is absolutely safe for American tourists, and tourists from any other country.
Despite what you hear from politicians the news media that China is a dangerous country where one must exercise a high degree of caution due to the risk of arbitrary enforcement of local laws, the facts remain that China is a safe travel destination for American tourists as long as you don’t go there to stir things up, such as advocating for Taiwan’s independence in public spaces.
The current diplomatic tension between the United States and China has its direct roots in America’s fear of China’s rapid rise as a superpower as well as in Chinese leadership’s assertiveness in dealing with its neighbours over territorial disputes. The current tarrifs war is just one episode in the onging geopolitical drama between these two superpowers. Unless the two countries go to war, they will learn to co-exist in peace.
As an ordinary citizen, you don’t want to sit around waiting for the two countries to go to war. In stead, you should go to China to see how the average Chinese live their life and try to gain a deep understanding of how the society functions. We advise the ordinary Chinese we meet the same – you should visit the US and meet the people for a better understanding of the American socity.
