The Japanese government offers a free online service called Visit Japan Web to simplify immigration and customs procedures for international visitors. By registering your travel information before departure, you can reduce the amount of paperwork required upon arrival in Japan and potentially save time at the airport.
Although using Visit Japan Web is not mandatory, Laurus Travel strongly recommends it to guests joining our Japan tours.

What Is Visit Japan Web?
Visit Japan Web allows international travellers to submit their immigration and customs information electronically before arriving in Japan. Once you have completed the registration, the system generates a QR code that can be presented to immigration and customs officials at the airport.
The service is free and available in English. You can complete the registration using a computer, tablet or smartphone.
Please note that Visit Japan Web is not a visa application system. Travellers who require a Japanese visa must obtain one separately.
How to Register
We recommend completing your registration a few days before departure, once your flight and accommodation details are confirmed.
Step 1: Create an account
Visit the official website and create an account using your email address and a password. You will need access to your email to complete the verification process.
Step 2: Enter your personal information
Register your passport details, including your full name, nationality, passport number and expiry date. Make sure the information matches your passport exactly.
Step 3: Register your trip
Enter your expected arrival date, flight number and accommodation details in Japan. For Laurus Travel guests, the address and telephone number of your first hotel in Japan can be found in your final travel documents.
Step 4: Complete the immigration and customs declarations
Answer the questions concerning your visit to Japan and any goods you may be bringing into the country. Review your answers carefully before submitting them.
Step 5: Obtain your QR code
Once the required information has been submitted, you can display your QR code through Visit Japan Web. We recommend saving a screenshot of the immigration and customs QR code on your smartphone as a backup.
Each traveller should have their own QR code, even when family members are registered under the same account.
What Happens When You Arrive in Japan?
Upon arrival, follow the airport signs for immigration and customs clearance. Have your passport and Visit Japan Web QR code ready for inspection.
Depending on the airport, you may be directed to an immigration counter, an electronic processing kiosk or a customs declaration terminal. Airport staff will guide you through the appropriate procedure.
Having your information registered in advance can make the process more convenient, although it does not guarantee shorter waiting times.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Visit Japan Web mandatory?
No. Travellers who prefer not to use the online system can generally complete the necessary immigration and customs declarations using paper forms. However, electronic registration is encouraged by the Japanese authorities.
When should I complete the registration?
We recommend doing so a few days before departure. You can register earlier if your travel arrangements are confirmed. There is no need to wait until the final 72 hours before arrival.
Do I need to download an app?
No. Visit Japan Web is a website that can be accessed through your internet browser. Be cautious of unofficial applications or websites claiming to offer the service for a fee.
What if I do not have a smartphone?
You can complete the registration on a computer and print your QR code. Alternatively, you can use the paper declaration procedures available at the airport.
Can my spouse and I use the same account?
The system allows family members travelling together to be registered under one account. However, each traveller must have their own immigration information and QR code. Depending on the circumstances, separate customs declarations may also be required.
What if my flight or hotel details change?
Log back into Visit Japan Web and update the relevant information before arriving in Japan. If you change information after generating your QR code, display the updated code.
Does Visit Japan Web replace a Japanese visa?
No. Visit Japan Web is intended for immigration and customs declarations, not visa applications. Canadian passport holders visiting Japan for short-term tourism generally do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days. Travellers holding other passports should check the applicable entry requirements.
