The Chinese government introduced an online arrival card system on November 20, 2025, allowing international visitors to submit their immigration information electronically before travelling to China.
Although completing the arrival card online is not mandatory, Laurus Travel recommends that guests joining our China tours do so before departure. This can simplify immigration procedures and save time upon arrival.
The service is completely free and available in English.

What Is the China Arrival Card?
The China Arrival Card is an immigration declaration required of most foreign visitors entering mainland China. It collects basic information about the traveller, including passport details, flight information and the purpose of the visit.
Previously, travellers generally completed a paper arrival card during their flight or at the airport. The new online system allows this information to be submitted in advance.
Please note that the arrival card is not a Chinese visa. Travellers who require a visa must obtain one separately. Visitors entering China under a visa-free arrangement may still need to complete an arrival card.
How to Complete the China Arrival Card Online
We recommend completing the form within three days of your scheduled arrival, once your travel arrangements have been confirmed.
Step 1: Visit the official website
Go to https://s.nia.gov.cn/ArrivalCardFillingPC/ and select English if necessary. Choose the entry declaration option for foreign visitors.
Step 2: Enter your passport information
Provide your full name, nationality, passport number, date of birth and other requested details. Make sure everything matches your passport exactly.
Step 3: Enter your travel details
You may be asked to provide your arrival date, flight number, purpose of visit and address in China.
For Laurus Travel guests, the address of your first hotel in mainland China can be used where accommodation details are required. Your hotel information will be included in your tour documents.
Step 4: Review and submit
Check all information carefully before submitting the form. Incorrect passport numbers or other personal details may cause difficulties during immigration clearance.
Step 5: Save your confirmation
Follow the instructions on the website to retrieve and save your completed arrival card or electronic confirmation. We recommend keeping a screenshot on your smartphone or printing a copy as a backup.
What Happens When You Arrive in China?
Upon arrival at a Chinese international airport, follow the signs for immigration or passport control.
Have your passport and electronic arrival card confirmation ready. Immigration officers may ask questions about your visit, including your travel plans and accommodation arrangements.
Once immigration clearance is completed, proceed to baggage collection and customs as directed.
Completing the arrival card online may reduce paperwork at the airport, but it does not guarantee faster immigration clearance.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the online China Arrival Card mandatory?
No. While most foreign visitors must provide arrival card information, they are not required to submit it online before travelling. Paper arrival cards and electronic registration facilities remain available at Chinese ports of entry.
When should I complete the online arrival card?
Laurus Travel recommends completing it within three days before arrival, when your flight and hotel details are unlikely to change. This is a practical recommendation rather than a requirement to wait until the final 72 hours.
Does the arrival card cost anything?
No. The Chinese government’s official online arrival card service is completely free. Be cautious of third-party websites that request payment or credit card information.
Do Canadian passport holders need to complete an arrival card?
Generally, yes. Even when Canadian passport holders qualify for visa-free entry, they are still subject to the applicable arrival card requirements. Visa-free entry does not automatically exempt travellers from immigration declarations.
Do I need to download an app?
No. The arrival card can be completed directly through the official website using a computer, tablet or smartphone. The Chinese government also provides registration options through its official mobile services.
What if I do not have a smartphone?
You can complete the form using a computer before departure and retain a printed copy of the confirmation. If you are unable to complete the online process, you can use the paper arrival card available at the airport.
What if I make a mistake or my travel details change?
Check whether the official system allows you to correct or resubmit your information. If necessary, complete a new declaration with accurate details or ask immigration staff for assistance upon arrival.
Does every traveller need an arrival card?
Generally, yes. Each traveller who is subject to the arrival card requirement must provide their own information, including spouses travelling together.
Certain categories of travellers are exempt, including holders of Chinese permanent resident identification cards, some travellers entering under group visa arrangements, and passengers making qualifying short international transits without leaving the restricted airport area.
What if I cannot complete the form before departure?
There is no need to be overly concerned. You can complete the arrival card upon arrival in China using an airport self-service terminal, scanning the official QR code or filling out a paper form.
Beware of Fraudulent Arrival Card Websites
The Chinese National Immigration Administration has warned travellers about fraudulent websites that imitate the official arrival card registration system and demand payment.
The official China Arrival Card service is free. You should never have to pay to submit your arrival information.
For your security, use only the official Chinese government website:
