Luxury Tours of Thailand – Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a passport to enter Thailand?
Yes. Your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date you enter Thailand and should have sufficient blank space for immigration stamps. We recommend checking the latest entry requirements before departure.

Do I need a visa to enter Thailand?
Citizens of Canada, the United States and many other Western countries can normally enter Thailand for tourism without obtaining a visa in advance for short stays. Visa exemptions and permitted lengths of stay can change, so travellers should confirm the current requirements applicable to their nationality before departure.

Do I need any vaccination or immunization certificates to enter Thailand?
Most travellers arriving in Thailand do not need to present vaccination certificates. Requirements may apply to travellers arriving from or having recently visited certain countries, particularly those where yellow fever is present.

Health recommendations are different from entry requirements. Travellers should consult their national public health authority or a travel health professional for current advice. Hepatitis A vaccination is commonly recommended for travellers to Thailand.

Should I obtain Thai baht before arriving in Thailand?
There is generally no need to purchase a large amount of Thai currency before departure. Thai baht (THB) is readily available after arrival, and ATMs and currency exchange services are widely available.

Since your tour fare already covers most major expenses, you will normally need cash only for personal purchases, meals not included in the itinerary, and other incidental expenses. We suggest carrying a modest amount of baht and replenishing it as needed rather than carrying a large amount of cash.

Can I pay in US dollars in Thailand?
Generally, no. The Thai baht is the standard currency for everyday transactions, and shops, restaurants and other businesses normally expect payment in baht. US dollars can be exchanged easily at banks and authorized currency exchange outlets, but they should not be relied upon for purchases.

Can I use credit cards in Thailand?
Yes. Visa and Mastercard are widely accepted at hotels, larger restaurants, department stores and established shops, particularly in major cities and tourist areas. However, smaller businesses, markets and street vendors may accept only cash or local electronic payments.

We recommend carrying some Thai baht even if you intend to use credit cards for most purchases.
