Tipping

Tipping is a customary part of guided travel in many of the regions visited on Laurus Travel tours. It is a simple and direct way to acknowledge the service provided by your tour leader, local guides, and drivers throughout your journey.

Gratuities are not included in the tour price unless specifically stated. This allows travellers flexibility while ensuring that tips go directly to the individuals who support your experience on the ground.

Our General Guideline

As a helpful reference, we suggest budgeting approximately $10 USD per guest per day for the combined service of your local guide and driver. This amount is typically shared, with the majority allocated to the guide.

For your tour leader, a similar guideline of $10 USD per guest per day is customary. This is usually offered as a single payment at the end of the tour.

These amounts are intended as a guide only. You are free to adjust based on the level of service you feel you have received.

When & How to Tip

In most cases, your tour leader will provide guidance on timing during the trip.

  • Local guides and drivers are typically tipped at the end of each city or region
  • Tour leaders are usually tipped at the end of the journey
  • Cash in US dollars is preferred, although local currency is generally accepted

Envelopes are a simple and appropriate way to present gratuities, particularly at the end of the tour.

Cultural Context

Tipping practices vary across Asia. In some destinations it is expected as part of service culture, while in others it is less common but increasingly appreciated in tourism settings.

Your guides will ensure that you are never required to navigate complex local expectations on your own. If there are destination-specific customs, they will be explained clearly during your trip.

A Simple Approach

Tipping should be straightforward and stress-free. The suggested amounts are designed to be fair, consistent, and reflective of the level of service provided throughout your journey.

Ultimately, gratuities are a personal choice and should reflect your satisfaction with the experience.
